ST LAZARUS BANKS

General Info
This exciting package makes some of the best fishing that Africa has to offer available to even those who cannot be away from work for more than a couple of days. Fishing the submerged atoll of St Lazarus is like being the first person to ever fish in paradise. The fish are plentiful and uneducated to the wicked ways of mankind, they attack all lures with vigor and intent. A four day trip will leave you with aching muscles and happy memories. A seven day trip is also very popular, while the trip itself will only run for a maximum of ten days.

Fishing
The Quirimbas Archipelago in general has huge sport fishing potential and is still relatively unexplored. The game fishing is impressive and species found include high varieties of kingfish (over 12 different species), barracuda, dorado, queenfish, queen mackerel; king mackerel; pomano; jobfish; wahoo, yellowfin tuna, dogtooth tuna; sailfish and marlin. You can troll around or over the St Lazarus atoll where you will pick up unbelievable numbers of Wahoo and yellow fin tuna, as well as dog tooth tuna, kingfish, etc. It is also fantastic to drift over the reef and deep jig, wrestling big fish up from the depths is a thrilling experience. Fly fishing around St Lazarus is certainly not for beginners. It offers some of the best blue water Fly fishing available.

Accomodation
You are accommodated on the impressive 42ft, with a 22ft beam, Catamaran known as Broadbill. She has 3 x double cabins (king size beds in each) and can accommodate a maximum of 6 x anglers. Location
Pemba is in the Cabo Delgado Province of northern Mozambique, not far from the Tanzania border. St Lazarus Banks is an atoll about 90 km due east of the island of Matemo (an island in the Quirimbas Archipelago North of Pemba).

Season
This location fishes well all year round. The only time we would recommend that you avoid would be mid June to mid August when the winds are wooly and can create swells making fishing unpleasant. Broadbill is generally taken out of the water in mid June, for routine maintenance and clean ups.

How to get there
LAM has regular flights that fly via Maputo from Johannesburg to Pemba. These flights go to Pemba on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, with returns from Pemba on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. SA Airlink also offers return flights directly from O.R. Tambo International airport to Pemba on Saturdays. Fares range from R2, 700.00 – R4, 200.00 return (excludes taxes of R1600). Once in Pemba, you are met by the team from Pemba Beach Hotel and Spa and are then transferred by road to board the catamaran and weather permitting you depart for your 5 hour trip to St. Lazarus Banks. You will arrive by approximately 1830.
