PEMBA BEACH HOTEL AND SPA - PEMBA

General Info

The luxurious Pemba Beach Resort Hotel is situated near the town of Pemba in the northern Mozambique province of Cabo Delgado. Pemba is a historical town with a colourful colonial and trading history. The hotel is close to a number of other attractions, including the Quirimbas Islands and the historic Ibos Island, a major trading centre in previous centuries and the site of some magnificent Portuguese architecture from the 1800’s. For years Pemba Bay has been an unexplored fishing ground with unknown fishing potential. With the influx of tourism the region is now becoming accessible to the adventurous angler.

Fishing

The Pemba region has established itself as one of the prime fishing hot spots along the eastern coast of Africa. Many of the fishing spots are within an hours ride of the hotel. However, the nearby Quirimbas Archipelago, a string of islands 60 km north of Pemba, is known for some spectacular gamefishing. The St. Lazarus Banks and the islands of Matemo and Medjumbe offer great fishing for bonefish, kingfish, barracuda, tuna, king mackerel, wahoo, dorado, marlin and sailfish.

Marlin fishing is still in its infancy around Pemba, however, small marlin do come out from time to time. Sailfish are regularly caught in these waters and the sailfish season seems to be between July and December. Wahoo are found all year round, while dorado tend to arrive between November and February. Yellowfin tuna are one of the main target species in the Pemba region and they seem to be present all year round.

“Temptation” is a 34 foot American- built Luhrs 3420 Sportfisher, with two 8.2L Detroit turbo diesel inboard motors. It can accommodate 5 anglers and can sleep 3. “Shooter” is a 16 foot South African built Cobra Cat powered by two outboard 70hp Yamaha motors which can be used for budget charters or when anglers want to fish closer to shore. “Shooter” can accommodate 2 anglers and 1 skipper. Each boat is fitted with the latest tackle and electronic equipment and comply with the safety standards as set forth by the Mozambique Maritime Authority.
